If only it were as simple as doing a large amount of cardio every single day in order to get sculpted and sexy looking legs.
But the truth of the matter is that the female body is extremely complex and if you use such a one-dimensional approach you’ll never get sexy legs.
You see, the only way to get the sexiest and the most toned legs possible is by activating all your different types of muscle fibers.
And the only way to accomplish this is by doing a wide variety of exercises.
The issue here is that the female body has three major types of muscle fibers and each one of them responds to a different type of exercise.
Here is a brief rundown of the different types of muscle fibers in your body:
– Slow twitch muscle fibers: they are activated when you do long-duration endurance training. So if you were to go on a walk or if you were to go on a light jog you will activate your slow twitch muscle fibers.
– Medium twitch muscle fibers: these muscle fibers are activated when you do resistance training within the 10 to 15 repetition range. They are usually activated when you feel that burn within your muscles whenever you’re doing any type of resistance training workout.
– Fast twitch muscle fibers: the only way to activate these muscle fibers is by lifting extremely heavy weights that bring you to failure. Sprinters and Olympic weightlifters usually have an extremely high density of fast twitch muscle fibers. Ironically, even though it takes less time to activate them they burn more calories than slow twitch or medium twitch muscle fibers.
Clearly, you need to make sure that you have a solid background in terms of proper weightlifting mechanics before you start to activate your fast twitch muscle fibers with heavy weight lifting.
On the other hand, you need to progressively increase the intensity of your workout so you can eventually reach a point we are able to activate all of these three different types of muscle fibers.
One more thing: in order to activate your fast twitch muscle fibers you first have to activate your slow and medium twitch muscle fibers.
This is yet another reason why heavy and intense weightlifting burns so many calories, because it activates your slow twitch and medium twitch muscle fibers by default.
So the take-home point here is that you shouldn’t rely on one type of leg training modality. You need to really mix up training styles and always have a core focus on heavy and intense lifting to get good results.
